HOUSE LEAGUE - WEATHER POLICY - GAMES

This policy does not apply to practices (see below).

(Last updated May 3, 2016)

To protect all players, coaches, officials, and spectators, the following criteria will be applied for inclement weather or poor field conditions in assessing if a game is delayed, cancelled and/or rescheduled.

Cancellations to practices will be communicated to parents by coaches, under direction by the Club as necessary only.

***

If games are cancelled due to inclement weather, a notice will be posted on the twitter feed on the website at www.islingtonrangers.com.

This will be the only communication that coaches/parents receive and it is the parent's responsibility to check the website accordingly.

PLEASE BRING PLAYERS TO THE GAME

Islington Rangers asks that players come to the game regardless of weather conditions prior to the game. Etobicoke sees periodic thunder showers of short duration during the summer which often clear in time for game time.

Light to moderate rain or mist is considered by OSA to be acceptable for playing the game of soccer, and all games will start with ongoing monitoring.

PRIOR TO GAME START

The Club Convenor and/or Club Director, in conjunction with the Referees shall determine if the games can start based on the following criteria:

  1. If temperature is 32C or above (excluding the humidex) at 5:00 pm games will be cancelled.
  2. If standing water or puddles are present, games will not start and teams will be sent home.
  3. If there is lighting, thunder or extremely threatening weather in the immediate area at 5:00 pm, games on all fields will not start and all teams will be sent home.
  4. If there is heavy rain or a torrential downpour occurring at game time, games will be delayed 15 minutes to see if the rain subsides. If the rain subsides, games will be played but will not end later than the scheduled end time of the game. If the rain does not ease but the sky in the immediate area appears to be clearing, the delay will be extended for no more than 30 minutes. If the rain does not ease, games will not start and all teams will be sent home.

DURING THE GAME

The Club Convenor, Club Director, or Referee have the right/responsibility to stop all games in progress based on the following criteria:

  1. If standing water or puddles develop on the field, or the conditions deteriorate, games will be stopped and teams will be sent home.
  2. If there is lightning, thunder or extremely threatening weather developing in the immediate area, games on all fields will be stopped and all teams will be sent home.
  3. If there is heavy rain or a torrential downpour occurs while a game is in progress, the game will be delayed 15 minutes to see if the rain subsides. If the rain subsides, the game will be continued but will not end later than the scheduled end time of the game.  If the rain does not ease but the sky in the immediate area appears to be clearing, the delay will be extended for no more than 30 minutes.  If the rain does not ease, the game will not restart and all teams will be sent home.

GAMES STOPPED DUE TO WEATHER OR FIELD CONDITIONS

  1. If 75% of the game has been played prior to stoppage due to weather or field conditions, the game will be considered complete and the score final.
  2. If the game is incomplete, the Club Convenor will determine if the game will be rescheduled to the next available field opening, or cancelled with games considered a tie.
  3. Games that are rescheduled will not include the results/score of the cancelled game (if results are reported for the age group).
